MACHU PICCHU***CUZCO

Vistadome***Machu Picchu***Cuzco

The bus dropped us off at the train station in Urubamba to board the Vistadome which will take us to Machu Picchu. It was a beautiful car with the attendants serving snacks on board.

Took a shuttle bus up to the entrance of Machu Picchu then we climbed up by foot and then we saw for the first time the magnificent view of Machu Picchu, a 15th-century Inca site located 7,970 feet above sea level. It is believed that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472). It is often referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas". Nothing can compare to the spectacular sight! Amazing how this ancient civilization managed the building of this splendid city up in the mountains.

Arrived in Cuzco in the evening after taking the Vistadome and the tour bus. After checking in at the Hotel Novotel, I went out to get some pizza and beer.

Cuzco Walking Tour***Home-hosted Dinner

Cuzco (elevation 11,200 ft) was the site of the historic capital of the Inca Empire and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1983 by UNESCO. We walked on the Plaza de Armas and saw the Cathedral, then the Koricancha or Golden Temple.

Had a light lunch and beer at Paddy's, an Irish pub, with Socrates and Olivia.

We later walked to the shopping district and happened to see some native folk dancing at a plaza.

Tonight we dined at a local home.
